The Joy of being a Chaperone

“Chaperoning kids to Confirmation Camp is a unique and rewarding experience and seeing kids grow in their faith right before your very eyes is proof the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives. While not a difficult task, it is exhausting! Keeping up with your 50 teenagers, among a group of 160 or more, can wear you out! But fear not, the kids are great and you really can watch them with a different eye. They don't need you to be their parent, their teacher, their pastor, or their principal; they just need a smile from across the room, a wave from the other side of the tennis court, or they want someone to answer a simple question (like: “we’re really allowed to have ice cream before lunch?”) which will help them have the best experience they can. The rewards of being a chaperone are also very heart-warming, and the best part is that you will get to really know them; meeting some for the first time, renewing acquaintances from years earlier when they may have been in the same class as your child, or just bonding with the kids you already know. Then when you’re back at church… they'll wave and smile at you!”
